Folio Press (“the Service” — the Chrome extension and the web studio at folio.chiaoban.com / folio-en.chiaoban.com) is built and operated by chiaoban. The Service is local-first by design: your conversations are parsed, typeset and exported inside your own browser. We run no servers that receive, store or analyse that content.

1. What we do not collect

  • Your conversations. The ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity threads you capture or paste, and the documents you edit, never leave your browser. There is no backend and no upload path.
  • Accounts. No sign-up, no Google sign-in, no third-party login.
  • Analytics or tracking. No Google Analytics, no pixels, no crash reporting, no cookies. We do not know how often you use the Service or what you export.

2. Data kept on your device

The following is stored only in your own browser storage and is fully under your control:

DataWhereWhy
Captured / pasted conversations, your edits, layout settingsExtension: chrome.storage.local; web: localStorageSo your documents are still there next time
Word / PNG free-trial counters, export count, whether we already asked for a reviewSame as aboveTo apply the free allowance and ask for a review once after your 3rd export
Pro license key, activation id and statusExtension: chrome.storage.sync; web: localStorageTo remember that Pro is unlocked. chrome.storage.sync travels between your devices through your own Chrome Sync (if enabled), never through us

Deleting it: delete documents in the studio, use “Deactivate” in the Pro dialog, remove the extension, or clear this site’s data. We hold no copy, so we cannot delete or restore anything on your behalf.

3. Extension permissions

Chrome lists these permissions at install time. Here is what each is for:

  • activeTab, storage, unlimitedStorage — read the conversation in the current tab when you press capture; keep documents locally without the 5 MB cap, so long threads with images fit.
  • chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, www.perplexity.ai — inject a “Send to Folio Press” button and the capture script on these sites. The script reads the page only when you press the button or the shortcut; it does not watch in the background, does not log what you type, and sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
  • googleusercontent.com, lh3.google.com, oaiusercontent.com, pplx-res.cloudinary.com, amazonaws.com (two specific paths) — images in a conversation are served from these AI providers’ image hosts. During capture your browser downloads them directly from the original host so they can be embedded in your document, using the same session you already have on that site.
  • api.lemonsqueezy.com — see the next section.

4. The only outbound connection: Pro license checks

After you buy Pro, your browser talks directly to our payment provider Lemon Squeezy (api.lemonsqueezy.com) in three moments: when you enter a key and press “Activate”, when the app starts and re-validates, and when you press “Deactivate”. It sends the license key, a fixed instance name (“FOLIO PRESS · Chrome”) and the activation id issued by Lemon Squeezy. This confirms the key is valid and enforces the limit of 2 browser environments per key.

Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record: checkout pages, card details, receipts and refunds are handled by them under their privacy policy. In their dashboard we see the order email and key status — never card numbers.

The web studio and the extension can ask each other whether Pro is active (only from folio.chiaoban.com and folio-en.chiaoban.com). That exchange carries license status, never conversation content.

5. Website and third-party resources

  • The web studio and the extension’s studio page load web fonts from jsDelivr (Pretendard) and Google Fonts; those CDNs see your IP address and browser details, as with any website.
  • The website is served as static files. The hosting provider may keep standard access logs (IP, time, user agent) for security and traffic purposes; we do not analyse them further.
  • Exported PDF, Word, PNG and Markdown files are written straight to your computer by the browser, without touching any server.

6. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.

7. Changes

If we ever add a feature that transmits data (for example cloud sync), we will update this page and the date at the top. If the extension needs a new permission, Chrome will ask for your consent again on update.
